By most standards of “good moviemaking,” Tom Hooper’s 2012 adaptation of the hit Broadway musical should be a total flop. The acting is uneven, the length an eyesore, and as CinemaSins has effectively pointed out, the live singing flawed. Yet you just can’t bring yourself to dislike Les Mis.

Sweeney Todd is not for the faint of heart. This is one of the darkest movies made in the last 20 years. Murder, rape, sexual perversion, insanity, poison, corruption – the world director Tim Burton has designed here is, as Sweeney Todd (Johnny Depp) himself puts it, “full of shit.”
